Things to Do in Jeju Island

Jeju Island is one of the nine provinces of South Korea. It is a small island, southwest of South Korea, with many beautiful scenic spots and coastal trails. It is a one hour flight from Seoul and about a 45-minute flight from Busan.

OEDOLGAE ROCK

Oedolgae, ‘lonely rock’, is one of the beautiful coastal trails that sits along the coastal cliffside around Oedolgae and Sammaebong Peak. This is the perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing walk along the coast.

SEONGSAN ILCHULBONG (SUNRISE PEAK)

Seongsan Ilchulbong, also known as ‘Sunrise Peak’, is a must when visiting Jeju. It was my favorite place to visit on the island. You don’t have to walk far to enjoy the spectacular view but if you do decide to do this popular hike, it is 553 steps to the top. It is generally considered a moderately challenging route but you can take your time and there are rest stops along the way where you can sit and enjoy the view. It is a 1.1 mile loop trail and can take about 45 minutes to an hour, depending how fast you go and how many stops you make.

SEOPJIKOJI

Seopjikoji is a beautiful scenic spot located on the east coast of Jeju Island. They have restaurants and shops and you can also find a lighthouse at the end of this quiet and peaceful coastal trail. I loved how relaxing the walk was.

Haenyeo (sea women) are female divers in Jeju, some in their 80s, whose livelihood consists of gathering shellfish such as abalone, sea urchins, a variety of mollusks, seaweed, and other sea life from the ocean.

FOLKLORE & NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

The Folklore & Natural History Museum features exhibits of the natural history and culture of Jeju where they aim to preserve the nature and traditions of Jeju and its people.

HALLIM PARK

Hallim Park is a beautiful park with lovely gardens, caves that you can walk through, and a very small zoo. It also has a restaurant, cafe, and souvenir shop.

CHEONJIYEON WATERFALL

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is one of three famous waterfalls on Jeju and its size can get impressive after a heavy rain. The walking path to the waterfall is very beautiful and relaxing. It can take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how many stops you make along the way.

JUSANGJEOLLIDAE CLIFF

Jusangjeolli Cliff is a stunning volcanic rock formation located at the southern coast of Jeju Island and a very popular tourist attraction.

YONGDUAM ROCK (DRAGON HEAD)

Can you see the rock formation of a dragon head? We had some extra time so we stopped at Yongduam Rock on our way back to Jeju Airport.

GRAND HYATT JEJU

Grand Hyatt Jeju is a luxurious 5-star hotel and an absolute must in Jeju! Definitely grand, to say the least. It is the largest Grand Hyatt in Asia Pacific and a 10-minute drive from Jeju Airport. It includes 14 restaurants and bars and the HAN Collection K-fashion mall. See more of Grand Hyatt Jeju in my post here.

Here are some of the delicious foods we ate in Jeju.

JEJU BLACK PORK BBQ

Jeju is known for its Black Pork BBQ. Its rich, distinct flavor and tenderness comes from a small species of pig with black skin and smooth coat of hair, which is indigenous to the island.

ABALONE SOUP

We sure enjoyed this delicious bowl of abalone soup. This restaurant is located in Seogwipo.

KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN

Everyone enjoyed the infamous Korean Fried Chicken.
